This project was lovingly hand-carved and shaped by A.K., a top student in Jewelry 10 in Fall 2019! Cast out of sterling silver, this project featured geometric angles created with a file and sandpaper, as well as a carved centre detail. Excellent work, A.K.!

Grade 8s have a quick run in the Woodwork shop, but get to try their hand at several tools and machines, and add personal touches to their projects. Pictured here are some great whistles, and all wood-burning was done by hand with a wood-burning pen. Great work, everyone!

K.G. in Grade 11 went above and beyond set projects in 2019 and created these gorgeous wire-work silver earrings. All shaping and soldering was done by hand, and they turned out beautifully. Excellent work!

Students in both Junior and Senior Jewelry get to try their hand at ring-making, and create progressively more challenging projects. These students decided to try their hand at a ‘braided’ and intro to ‘filigree’ ring, where they up-cycled old electrical wire and annealed with a torch as they shaped it. Excellent work, A.K. and L.J.!

New students to Jewelry/Metalwork get to try their hand at using a jewellers’ saw (the bread and butter of most jewellers and fine metalsmiths!). Students choose their own design and cut all shapes out by hand. Incredible work!

These cutting boards were many students’ FIRST-ever woodworking projects. Students design their dimensions, wood types, and layout, and learn most of our bigger machines (jointer, planer, table saw, mitre saw) through this project, as well as foundational laminating and layout skills. Beautiful work, everyone!

The 2019-2020 round of sweat-soldered creative projects in Jewelry 11/12 was STUNNING! Way to go, everyone!
Students choose a design, plan their layout, and choose a minimum of 2 different metals to use. All cutting is done by hand with a jewellers’ saw, and all sanding and finishing is done by hand as well. Great work!

Well! Things definitely took a turn in 2020, and it is finally time to update our shop blog. These next few posts are from the 2019-2020 school year (up until we were working and schooling from home due to COVID-19).
