Stones & Glass

Stone-set seaglass shark!

Tongue twister of the year for sure, but look at this thing! A keen and creative Grade 9 student wanted to try their hand at stone setting, and did their first ever bezel setting with a piece of sea glass. They cut out the shark profile by hand as well out of sterling silver. Awesome work, F!

Self-Directed Jewelry 9/10 Projects

These students went above and beyond their set projects and challenged themselves to try new skills. Both sets of earrings were hand-cut with a jewellers’ saw (studs soldered onto the back). Beach stone pendants were chosen by students, and they designed their prong backing to hold the stone.

Incredible work, folks!

Beach stone jewelry with Cheryl Jacobs!

Professional Jeweller Cheryl Jacobs came to our Jewelry 9/10 classes in December and shared some new skills with us! Students learned how to use diamond bits to drill through beach stones and glass, and created a piece that incorporated rivets, wire accents, etc. All beach stones collected from Denman Island (ocean-polished!). Thanks, Cheryl, and hope to see you next year!
