B. in Grade 9 took on a huge challenge for their first-ever jeweller’s saw project! She wanted to make something special for her grandma, and spent many lunch hours and flex blocks cutting out these intricate roses. Once cut out, she worked hard to sand and finish the piece, and then we tempered the metal to get some beautiful colors out of the copper. So proud of this student and their perseverance – way to go!
Just two of MANY self-directed earring designs created by students in our shop! On the left, Y.K. made these gorgeous sweat-soldered copper and silver earrings (self-designed). We also sometimes use other mediums in our shop for self-directed projects, including polymer clay (pictured on the right), wood, acrylic, etc. Awesome work!
The Creative Project combines everything we learn in our first unit of Jewelry/Metalwork 11/12: cutting with a jeweller’s saw, soldering two or more metals together, and sanding/buffing/texturing/finishing metal. Each of these projects is uniquely designed by students, and all are cut entirely by hand. Extra congrats to R.H. for that super tricky guitar – she worked SO dang hard on getting those wires soldered. Awesome work, everyone!
This SUPER intricate piece made by M.B. was a labor of love, and all cut by hand. She succeeded in making this sheet of copper look like lace, and totally killed it! Excellent work.

These extra projects were designed and created by Grade 11 student K.C. – WOW! Pitbull was sweat-soldered and had a small heart charm added with a jump ring, and both projects were intricately cut by hand using a jewellers’ saw.

This creative project by J.G. deserves special recognition! J.G. came up with this project concept in the hopes of shaping the manta ray to look as though it is moving through water. What an incredible job! J.G. cut all details out by hand with a jewellers saw, and delicately shaped the brass using small jewellers’ anvils. Gorgeous work, and I hope you are enjoying post-grad life, J.G.!

Students choose a design, plan their layout, and choose a minimum of 2 different metals to use. All cutting is done by hand with a jewellers’ saw, and all sanding and finishing is done by hand as well. Great work!
