Grade 12 student J.L. crafted this gorgeous sterling silver twig ring as a self-directed project. Leaf shape was cut out of sheet metal, branches and vines cut and soldered out of wire. Incredible work!

Gorgeous bracelet
Grade 12 student T.C. made this beautiful bracelet as a self-directed project. Sweat-soldered moon shape, textured band…this is some great work!
Junior Jewelry projects
Super Mario pendant hand-cut by M.S. in Grade 10, steel-tempered pendant colored and engraved by C.P. in Grade 9, and stained glass earrings made by C.H. in Grade 9.
Belt Buckles
Wow! Some incredible belt buckles came out of the Highland Jewelry shop this year. Featured here are pieces by R.P., D.G., B.G., T.G., and E.H. Love that textured copper on the bear claw and the tree, and the buffing/brushed finishing job on the “Hoonigan” buckle.
Hand-cut metalwork
Self-directed pieces by M.F. and T.G. in Grade 12. Pieces are uniquely designed, cut out by hand, and soldered to contrasting metals by “sweat-soldering”.
Great castings
Sterling bald eagle ring, and custom-carved brass axe, both cast and created by Grade 12 student D.H. Nice work!

Pewter Castings
Some excellent examples of pewter castings, done by Grade 9 & 10 students J.M-J., C.E., C.B., & C.H. Each student chooses a design, carves it into a block of plaster, then casts it with molten pewter.

Lost wax casting with organic material
Lost Wax Casting isn’t just for wax! As C.S. in Grade 12 proves, organic materials like branches, twigs, and even bugs can be cast out of metal. After some experimentation, C.S. cast this cedar branch out of sterling silver: it looks incredible (in-process photo also included here).
Also featured is an unfinished sterling silver pendant cast out of a piece of Cumberland bark. Experiments like this are always welcome in the Highland Jewelry shop!
Pewter castings, part 2
Another round of incredible castings by C.P. (pawprint), A.B. (snowflake), J.D. (biohazard symbol), and A.F. (skull). All castings are designed by the student, carved out of a plaster blank with various tools, cast out of pewter, then filed, sanded, and polished to perfection. Great work, everyone!
